Botanics for Boots – democratising natural wellness
We worked with Boots to evolve their own brand ‘Botanics’, transforming it into a modern, natural, more accessible wellness offering for a new generation of consumers.
The modern apothecary
The Challenge
In a beauty market saturated with premium-priced natural skincare, wellness had become a luxury less people could afford to invest in. This created a significant barrier for the “Wellness Seeker” – the discerning consumer who values natural ingredients and sensorial experiences but seeks accessibility and value.
Boots’ own brand, Botanics, with its rich apothecary heritage and natural ingredients, was perfectly poised to meet this need. However, it first needed to be revitalised and repositioned to connect with a new generation of consumers. It needed transforming from a legacy brand into an inspiring, modern, and accessible wellness destination. The challenge was to democratise natural wellness, making it a day-to-day essential, not a privilege.
The Opportunity
Our Unordinary Idea was to reframe the brand around a central concept: The Wellness Apothecary for Today’s World. We repositioned Botanics as the accessible expert, blending years of pharmaceutical knowledge with a deep understanding of the power of plants.
This was brought to life through evolving the brand, creating a rich, multi-sensorial world.
- A New Visual Identity: We developed a design system that uses natural materials, warm stone textures, and a masterbrand green to convey efficacy and calm authority. The “Wellness Unifier” logo and graphic devices create ownable brand assets that anchor the new identity. This informed the development of the packaging design across multiple formats and product ranges.
- An Authentic Photography Style: The photography captures a more elevated, sensorial experience of the products, focusing on their natural origins and efficacy.
This strategic and creative refresh transformed Botanics into a brand that is curated, considered, and deeply connected to nature, making expert plant-based skincare accessible to all.
The Results
The revitalised brand strategy and identity delivered significant commercial and brand-level results, successfully repositioning Botanics in a competitive market.
